This is me, Naked

Don't mindfuck yourself - your brain is a powerful tool, but don't use it as a weapon against yourself.

Joka aamu, mietin 5 things i'm happy about - viittä kivaa juttua siinä päivässä.

Mietin aina, että "no reissussa sitten".

The only thing I need is to get off my ass and start doing !

PS. Soz, no pics!

Looking Ahead

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW_gP-cwc3k

I've had my head up in the clouds the past couple of days.
Looks like calculating future revenue is trending - once again!
Just can't help to dream of the day I finish school...
The amount of money i'll have on my bank account then makes me smile knowing I'll be able to finally fulfill many of my dreams aka first being getting far away from this land of silence, alcoholics and melancholy.

Started actually wondering whether i'll even come back to Finland cause by the looks of my plans atm, seems like i'll be gone for at least 3 years. But, then again - I like to think of not really having that vivid plans - just an outline and an direction of how I wanna spend my time after I graduate. Not going straight to the rat race - that's for sure. I'm considering it more in the way of buying a one way ticket and seeing what happens - A lifestyle choice. Who knows, maybe i'll fall in love with life somewhere I travel, decide to find an easy going job and settle for less. Feels good not to be one of those people who crave for insignificant things like success and status... My goal in life is happiness... And I've been fairly certain for some years now that it's not what i'll find here or working some nine to five job I hate.

So, change of plans: looks like I won't be taking it easy and enjoying life this summer at all... But sweating it off and saving are just opportunity costs I'm willing to pay for my future prospects, goals and dreams. In the end it always pays off.

INDECICIVENESS

Tried to write this in Finnish but goddamn, dunno if it's this hungover or just the lack of my ability to produce anything written in Finnish anymore...

I feel pretty lost right now. I have tons of ideas of where I could go and how I could spend my vacation, but I just don't know which idea sounds the most appealing or whether anything really sounds that appealing that I would be bothered enough to whore myself out as a cashier and save every penny. I just feel like I don't have any MUST SEE -top places any more that I would like to see (ofc South America but that's something I won't cover in such a short time as a summer vacation) or things that would reeeeeaally get me pumping.

I don't know. Must be the problem of when you have too much to chose from, the difficulty to chose steps in and nothing sounds more appealing than the other.

Anyhoo, here are the stuff I am currently deciding on. Might be that I'll do some, might be that I'll do none. Who the fuck knows.

1) Bali in May
Yeaaaah Randomness. Was not planning on this at all but then Jean told me there's a four day rave at a volcano happening and that I should come. Would also be cool to surf and Claudia would be there so could have a couple messy nights in Kuta with her! Probably the most appealing matter is though the fact that nowadays I have the ability to fly standby... which means, I could get to South East Asia for money close to nothing... Kinda intrigued to just go to the airport and try it out.

2) Band of Skulls @ Berlin
Really really really wanna see Band of Skulls live and they would be playing a small venue gig in Berlin on May 15th.  I've been meaning to go to Berlin again so this would be a perfect combination. The only thing that's stopping me from going is that I don't have anyone to go with. And you CAN'T possibly go to a gig by yourself ! My Canadian couz Laura, who is now doing her exchange in Paris would be willing to go but she most likely will have her finals on that day :/ I really wanna go though so I'm gonna see if I can find someone to go with me.

3) Tall Ship Races
Dad told me he knows some people that work at the dockyard or what ever so he suggested he could ask around if there are still places available. But somehow, now that I got so accustomed to the idea of not being able to participate, I don't know if I wanna go anymore (?!?!? yeah wtf is wrong with me)

4) Surfing in Portugal
Wrote about this already. This would take place in July but let's see if i'll make it happen.

4) Creamfields
I'm pretty sure i'm going. Last year I was so up for it but unfortunately my school had just started so there was no way I could've missed on the first days of school (especially since I had only started as a Freshman). This year however, the line up is even sicker and now that Tomorrowland failed, I'm even more sure i'll go. PLUS the tickets only cost 140e with camping !! The only reason why I haven't purchased my ticket yet, is because my friends are still in doubt whether they wanna go (tyyyypical... always someone holding me back.. maybe I should just buy the ticket for myself and see what happens?)

5) Berlin in August
Pretty sure we are going to make this happen with a couple mates - Masa, Jassu, Aava, Ansku. Spend a week in the coolest city in Europe (after Helsinki ofc ;) )  viewing street art,  going through thrift stores, attending sick parties and just wondering on the well designed streets of Berlin.

I think the main reasons that are holding me back - or why I don't feel so SUPER enthusiastic about the ideas of e.g. Bali, Tall Ship Races or a longer trip, is that maybe I subconsciously long to be at home. Maybe I miss stability and long for not having to be in full motion all the time. The past three years starting from early 2009 when I was collecting money for Mexico and the 2 weeks in Holland/Netherlands, combined with Rock Werchter, up till last winter holiday's Bali trip has just been such a hassle. Those 12 fucking months I spent working working working, saving saving saving for Australia (best trip of my life so far) was quite a lot. It was ofc rewarding, but also really fucking stressful and a lot to handle. Sometimes I would wake up, get ready, go work 10 hours, come back home to go straight to bed and sleep 12 hours just to wake up to the same thing again. Or I would have four part time jobs at the same time and managing my time would be a superwoman skill.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I _fucking_ love traveling. I don't think I feel anywhere more at home and like myself when I'm on the road with my backpack on my shoulders or when I am jumping up and down all sweaty to the rhythm of the music. I just think that I've realized that I need a break from it. In 2009 I worked after school to save till Holland/Netherlands, went there in the summer, fell in love at Rock Werchter, came home for three days, sat on a plane and flew to Mexico for a month. Came home in August with a feeling of longing and like my heart was about to explode & decided to make Australia come true. Worked for a year, fought with dad the whole time, was getting stressed, anxious, depressed but made it through. Worked like a machine, smiled at 10 grand in my bank account, hoped on a plane in October. Heart full of hope and mind full of adventure. Journey took 39 hours to Cairns. Had the best three months of my life in Oz and then traveled to Morocco where I had the worst month of my life. Came home anxious and depressed and realized I had to take care of myself. Got better, saved, worked, saved, worked, went to Heineken Open'er in Poland and Interailing by myself for a month. Realized I liked traveling by myself. Came home worked the rest of the vacation, started school in the end of August and multitasked my way through a report card full of 5's (top grade) and a bank account enough of money to fly to Bali. Spent Christmas and my B-day with strangers (& Jasmine) again. Came back.

Although I've had the best time of my life I can't help it to feel a bit tired. I feel like i've been in full motion all the time and that I haven't been able to catch my breath. I feel like I live according to two very distinct cycles - one is where I work and save and barely have time to see any of my mates and the other where I feel like I am living. This last school year I've only had time to see my best mate THREE TIMES thanks to school and working when ever I have free time and spending the rest of my free time abroad.

Feels like the past three years have been super hectic. Work work work -phase, travel, come back, work work work, travel, come back, work work work and so on... Full speed on and on and on.

Like I already said - Don't get me wrong -  I love my life. But - Would also be nice to live back in home every once in a while and not only when I'm backpacking. Also everytime when I go fetch/drop someone off at the airport I just feel super tired. I used to looove airports but nowadays the sight of one makes me feel stressed. That's why I've realized that maybe  should just stay in Finland for the summer. Catch my breath. "Take some time off". Enjoy life here. Ofc I want to and probably will make shorter trips but I think I've had enough of "longer" trips for now. At least until December.

I realized that how cool would it be to just enjoy the summer in the city, in lovely little Helsinki. The best city in the world. How wonderful would it be to have an actual SUMMER VACATION. I have tons of shit I wanna save up for but I mean, what if I would work but not work to the max this summer? What if I would live for myself and not for my bank account this summer? Thinking about money and always maxing your balance up just results into no social life and I would like to do something else than sit as the check out girl.

So yeah. I think I might just chill the fuck out and stay in one spot (apart from those minitravels) this summer.

Dunno where this long rant came from. It's just that this has been on my mind and I've been so confused about not KNOWING what I want. Until I realized what I actually wanted :)

But yeh, the sun is shining, the snow is melting and i'm having a happy hangover so life is good :) I better get back to studying now since I have three presentations (gonna have to rock the corporate whore -look again :((( ) and two exams on Mon-Fri.

Next Friday off to Eurotrip with my class !

Set Me Free

Every once in a while I get this feeling:

Kinda getting anxious here... I should be surfing, sleeping in a beach shack and walking barefoot... Living life the way I want it. Not the way I should live it.

I'm slightly freaked out that although I have quite the freedom here (since I do get to backpack twice a year; during chrissie I have a month off of school and I have a nice 3 month summer vacation) - I'll be completely unchained only after three years...  and I'll be turning 25 that year. fuuuuuuu. I should be living my life NOW.

But. yeah. I'm gonna finish school - or at least keep on going as long as this motivation remains. I guess I just need to distract myself until then - music, parties and mini-traveling until I set myself completely freeee.

And hey, it's not like i'll be in Finland for that long anymore... :) 2013 Fall I'm off to Madrid to do my exchange and on my fourth year (2014-2015) I have my five month working holiday abroad.

Life's pretty good. Just gotta remember it.

Stoked on the Future!

11.1.2012 Ubud

Although I love Bali, I’m super stoked on going back home. I have so much cool stuff waiting for me back home!!!

Only after three days when returning home, I will be attending Matkamessut (a travel expo), which Rantapallo is kind enough to grant us bloggers tickets to :) I’m super keen on seeing what the conference has to offer and I will be sure for keeping my eyes open for ticket discounts for my next travels ;) It will also be a great opportunity for looking for sponsors for my Tall Ship Races –trip !

I also need to start planning something I like to refer as to the W.E.P – what it is, you will find out when the time is right. ;)

Also i’m pretty stoked on going back to school... :D Maths and accounting..!.wow I am a nerd. Nah but really, I had a really good semester studying wise, and the only three grades I’ve gotten so far where 5’s !!! (From subjects I DID NOT expect myself to be getting tp marks from!) I’m constantly checking our school’s netportal to see whether the teachers would be bored enough on their vacation to fill in our grades ;) I have a strong feeling this will the best report card I’ve ever got... I know I did pretty fuckign well on my exams and I’m excited on getting the results back (and seeing how many more 5’s I got :D) :) AND this semester I will make damn sure that i’ll concentrate 150% on Spanish porque quiero hablar español perfectamente un día..! ALSO pretty keen on taking the digital photography course and learning more about photography (:

I’m also excited because two days ago when we were driving to Ubud on the scooter with Milka and I was just sitting back, listening to my iPod hungover, I had these realizations:

1)      I  Started thinking about whether I should do marketing as my major. During the fall semester when I was thinking of what to study as my major I knew that I didn’t want it to be

a) Economics – because although it is useful and usually pretty logical, the graphs are a total mind fuck most of the time and usually just requires for you to learn them by heart. AND four years with Michale Keaney would just be too painful with his bad bad bad jokes : D
b) Marketing – because Kotler (the author) is a fuckign lunatic who writes books that are ACTUALLY over 1000 pages long and the size of big laptops... Tooooo much man..

...BUT
when I came to Bali I started rethinking the issue. Marketing started to sound appealing as I started realizing the opportunities that marketing would provide. I could basically work anywhere.

For example:
Paolo, the 46-year-old Brazilian guy from Balangan Beach owns his own ”surf village” in an island somewhere in Indonesia and I asked jokingly whether I could come work for him ”yeah. You could do the marketing”. Ding ding ding, jackpot!

I also got inspired by Jean, Jonas’ French friend (who’s friend’s villa we stayed at) who has been now living in Bali for a year. He’s a fucking lucky guy because at ony 25 he got hired as the director of Ticket to the Moon in Bali and is doing e.g. the marketing for the company. So basically he is living in Bali and has a cool job of selling freakin’ hammocks :D

So yeah.. with marketing comes a lot of options and different livestyles to choose from.

2)      What I also realized, was that I’m not going to give up on Out of Control Productions, mine and a couple friends’ company/organization we created, registered and threw a succesful Halloween Party with. We had some internal problems that made me seriously doubt whether I wanted to continue to work in OOCP and when leaving to Bali I just answered ”I don’t know” when I was being asked whether I was still in after a month of avoiding everything that had to do with OOCP. I told I’d figure things out in Bali. But after staying in Bali for three weeks I still hadn’t gotten an epiphany about what to do with the issue. I just wished I wouldn’t have to choose between working-with-wonderful,-passionate-people-who-are-amazing-at-what-they-do-but-with-whom-you’d-probably-clash-big-time-with-at-times to giving up on something I was part of creating and loved doing.

I was sitting at the back of the scooter with my headphones when I realized there was no way I was going to quit doing something I am good at. Never ever have I been as passionate as in those two manic weeks when we pulled off the sickest Halloween Party with Demi and Janika. Never ever have I been so driven and focused. 12 hour days have not seemed like work with such a good and FUN team. Although we might have our  differences its not worth giving up on something that could fourish from a tiny seed into a beautiful flower. Not forgetting about friendship.

I’m super excited in going back as when I asked the girls and Jin (when combining the StartUp Challenge with OOCP Jin, the graphic and computer wizard joined forces with us) to fill me in on what was happening nowaday in OOCP (as I had been succesfully avoiding our FB-Admin page for two months) Demi told we are doing collab with Trombi Ry, the student organization, and throwing parties for them...! Not to mention all the other school parties and what not :) I also have a couple ideas on parties and I can’t wait to see my girls again and meet Jin finally, so that we can start working on our company’s future :)

So yeah, Pretty fucking stoked on going back home. Not to mention that Sean who has left Australia behind to make his RTW-trip is heading to Helsinki on the 26th aka AUSSIE DAY!!!!

Costa da Caparica

27.7 Costa da Caparica, Portugal

Today was by far one of the best days of my trip so far.
Thank you good karma !!!

But before getting into detail about how karma rewarded me with, i'll start from the begining.

I had decided the day before that I would go surfing to Costa de Caparica so after having breakfast with Lien, moving my luggage from the room to the other one (i want o stay in the cheapest room for 12.5€ so I have to change rooms two times.. :D)  and getting my stuff ready, I headed to the kiosk downstairs to charge the public transport card Lien had given me. Unfortunately the lady working there only knew Portugease, so I couldn't really communicate with her in Spannish nor understand anything of what she was saying to me. I decided to 'fuck it' and strolled to the terminal, where from the ferry would leave to the island. The guy working there told me in (English!) that the next one would leave in 50 minutes so I tried to figure out how to kill the remaining time.

I decided to go the near by café and have a coffee and finally taste that famous pastry "pastéis de nata". I've been getting by just fine by talking Spannish to people (after - of course - asking them "hablas español") but when I ordered a "café con leche" (café latte) I got this tiniest cup of dark coffee in it - an espresso. I don't like that stuff but I didn't really care so I just sat outside with my delicious pastry, coffee and my brilliant book in my hand. I was just feeling so incredibly happy. I don't know if it also had to do with the fact that I was in the middle of a good happy happy joy joy chapter in "The Marching Powder", but at that point I just felt so good.

I got on the ferry and watched the beautiful scenery and smelled the ocean. Oh, how I love that smell... :) I'm so happy that next summer I'll be smelling the ocean for three weeks if everything goes as planned...! When we arrived in Trafaría, I found out that the bus was due to leave in 20 minutes so I just wandered around for a bit. I felt almost ecstatic. It was such a beautiful day - the sun was shining, I was walking on a freaking peninsula in Portugal, the scenery and the buildings were ashtonishing and I was about to surf (finally!!!). I was just so unbelivably happy. And also, just so grateful to be traveling on my own. Once again I was going through a list in my head of things that I appreciated about traveling alone. I just loved it how I could fully absorb everything without any interference. If I were to travel with someone, it would mean that I would need to keep that person company - which would mean talking. Don't get me wrong, I love long conversations but sometimes it's just pleasant to be in silence and enjoy the environment.

After the bus journey I was dropped off at Costa de Caprica and I wandered to the beach. I was looking for this surf shop the receptionist in my hostel had recommended for me. He told me he had a friend working there ("just ask for philippe") and that I could rent a board and a wet suit from him. I had to get my map out to see what the street was called and suddenly this guy in board shorts, who was passing me, asked me in English whether I was looking for something. I gestured at the address and he told me he knew that place and asked whether I was looking to buy a surf board.

"No, I just wanna rent one and a wet suit too. I'm staying at this hostel and my receptionist told me that his friend works at this surf shop."
"Ok I know where it is, I know the owner too."
"Oh, really?" (thinking that I'd better get a good deal know)
"Yeah it's just there *points at the flags of the shop* But I mean I have a board and a wet suit, you culd just borrow them."
"Really? That would be sweet, for how much?"
"For free"
"No way, that would be so nice of you! What kind of board do you have? Long or short board?"
"Both."
"Well could I borrow the long board? I don't really have any paddle power for the short one."

So yeah. Good fucking karma. I saved so much money today and hang out the whole day with the coolest life guards. A wettie would've cost me 20e for haf a day (so fucking expensive!!) and a board god knows what. I was so grateful for Rafa, the Portuguese life guard that lent me his board :) I went surfing and was froffin'... It was so good to be in the ocean again and all those bad memories from Morocco, that I might've combined with surfing in my sub concious, where whiped away :) After surfing I was just hanging out in the life guard tower with Rafa and his work mate Mali, a Brazilian guy. Just sun bathing, enjoying life and reading my book. I was just so amazingly happy. Eating my fruit and smiling to myself :) "Life is better when you surf" - so true.

It was funny when Rafa left out for lunch and I stayed back with Mali. He doesn't speak really any English so I was having a conversation about Brazil (world cup, weather and how they have winter when we have summer) with him in my basic Spannish and his Spannish/Portuguese :D Amazingly we did actually succeed in having a convo and I was just even more proud of my Spannish skills :D

Mali and Rafa have to use radio phones while working so at one point I just grabbed the phone and started chatting into it in English/Spannish about taking Mali and Rafa as hostage and how I "Necesito dinero rápidamente" !!! Mali was cracking up also - when after talking into the radio phone - he sighted very loudly and I told him "Hard work, hey". Yeah, so hard, sitting on the beach the whole day and looking at girls !

I was a bit bummed that I had't taken my camera with me (I left everything valuable back home and didn't even take a wallet with me so that I could go into the ocean without a worry) but luckily Rafa had his camera with him. He has a Nikon D200 and a SICK lense.... It was a sigma 200-500mm and cost him 2000e..... eheheee. (He is a photographer while he is not rescuing lives on the beach). We made some great "baywatch photos" and he promised to e-mail them to me. I told him that tomorrow I would come to Costa de Caprica with my camera so I could take some photos myself and surf some more (since I can use hi board again, yay !). He invited me to stay and have dinner with him and his friends tomorrow so I might do that too.

When I left home after five hours on the beach (I applied sun screen many times!) it took me two fucking hours to get back to my hostel so all the shops were closed since it was half past nine already. Luckily had some stuff at the hostel so I made a salad (without feta boo) and joked aroun with Lien and Marta. Too bad the girls are leaving tomorrow but yeah, I don't think I would be hanging at the hostel that much anyways... TIME TO SURF!

Live Through This

Hey guys. I'm terribly sorry for not posting in a while. I'm far behind in updates, but not to worry. I "took notes" of every day of my trip so it's pretty easy to recall what happened on each day. I just hope i'll be able to capture the same feeling and atmosphere !

I've been pretty busy with work - you know, saving up for my next trip... the uge! - also spent almost a week on working at & enjoying the Flow Festival which also came with the workers' after party ! Not to mention the school's orientation days that made me realize that the actual start of school is lurking just around the corner. So, haven't really had time to write my blog (although I want to!).

Talking about school. I'm super stoked and keen to start my studies though the it only occured to me today (well actually yesterday since it's already 1:33 AM. But I haven't gone to bed yet so... anyhoo) that tomorrow (=today) is the LAST day of my year off.... Whaaat really ?? How did 17 months pass by so quickly ? It's pretty weird and a bit radical perhaps to say that the past year (well my year off actually) has been the BEST yet the WORST time of my life.

It's a cliché to say "I wouldn't change a thing" but that's not the only reason why i'm not saying it. Some things you just can't change no matter how you could go back in time and want to change them. But now that I've lived through it, I guess I've gotten accustomed to the shit I had to go through. For better and for worse, I guess.

But if I could. I would do it all again.
Never ever have I had a more better idea than taking a year off and doing exactly what I've been dreaming of doing. So, do it, go take a year off and go crazy and go travel! Explore ! Meet people ! Be a backpacker ! Live a little!

And finally, miss you Australia, but we'll meet again. Of that i'm sure.

Ps. I promise to post when I get my keyboard fixed on my laptop (note to self: don't eat when you are using the computer!!!)

Sleep Deprivation

4.8 At Barcelona Airport 8:30 AM

I was almost left outside of the terminal at 00:30 because I lacked any papers of my flight what so ever.

Security guard infront of the gates of terminal 2:
"Su tarjeta de embarque por favor."
"...............No tengo."
"No tarjeta, no pasar."
"Pero.. no tengo."
"No puede pasar. Abiertan en las seis."

At this point I thought that I was in deep shit. I was trying to recall whether it had been ever necessary print out any forms (disregarding Ryanair's flights) or was a passport just fine to be able to check in. I began to panic that I would not get home. Or that I would have to wait outside the terminal for 5,5 hours..........

"Estás sola?"
"Sí.."
"Ok, pasa"
"MUCHOS GRACIAS."

I think the security guard realized I wouldn't be well off on my own with all my luggage and no where to go to (except terminal 1), waiting outside in the dark for the clock to struck six.

There was no way I was going to risk missing my flight (again) so sleeping was not an option. So I purchased 24 h wifi with 10 euros and pretty much made a camp in one corner. I sat in that very same place for 7 hours... Holy fuck. Thank god my friends have insomnia and Hector was on facebook to keep me company. Later on I saw Jared online and we skyped for half an hour!!! Man do I miss him so incredibly much. He is one of my all time favourite people I met in Australia and I still keep in contact with him. It was so good to see his face and hear his voice and I wished I could've just jumped through the screen to Darwin and hang out with him and hug him ! Jared's the best. We reminisced about good times... That very first night Melanie introduced me and Laura to Ian and Jared and we met crazy Wolf man. On that same night me and Jared got peed on by Melanie (!!! EPIC!!!)... We also thought about Magnetic Island and Airlie along other stuff. Damn. If only Jared would be going to Indonesia in December instead of September.

After skyping with Jared and reading one message on fb that wasn't reall the most pleasant one, I started feeling a bit anxious about going back. I am pretty sure it's the sleep deprivation that's talking, but I just really started doubting my purpose in my life back home. It felt a bit like in January, when I was returning home from my four month trip - returning to nothing (no school, no job etc). I tried to remind myself that it was just an illusion because I have everything going on for me back home - I'll be working non stop in August, i'll be volunteer working at this festival and getting free tickets to it, i'm gonna start going to the gym again and school is about to start in late August. But somehow just knowing, that I would go back to Finland with the mentality of saving up again so I could  get away go traveling again felt a bit depressing.  It feels crazy to have this strong urge of wanting to get away...
Don't I really have anything in Finland that would make a difference to keep me from wanting to leave home again ?

That's the issue I've been resteling with on this trip. Am I really happy in Finland? Do I really wanna live there? Meeting Finnish people abroad is always such a dull reminder of how things are back home - everyone is just so "jäinen". No one can keep up a conversation (unless they are drunk) and although I would be the one that is trying to spark up the convo, the other participate just lacks the skills to maintain it. And talk about Finnish men.  Oh God. Don't even get me started. When I came home from Morocco I had decided to stay back in Finland to study, because I had a lot of shit going on and I knew I wouldn't have been able to cope on my own in a foreing country without my safety net. But now that I feel like i'm over those dark times, I feel like there's really no reason why I should stay home, in Finland.

The only reason why I would consider living and studying in Finland is that uni is free and I can make a lot more money  -so I can go traveling again- in my country compared to most of the countries. Unless we are talking about Australia with a minimum wage of $18.5 per hour. Jared actually just told me that he gets $20 an hour but with tips $30.. He said he worked yesterday for 5,5 hours and made  _150_ dollars. But yeah. The uni isn't free in Australia... It's pretty much the opposite, at least the ones I looked at some two years ago.

Yeah. I don't really know... I've been planning I should at least do an exchange year after this one. That would give me one year in Finland, second one in exchange and the third one in one of the partner universities abroad (in Madrid I hope!). The final year, the fourth one, has a work practice term of five months, and it is recommended to do abroad - which I would totally do of course. So I would only be in Finalnd for some 1,5 years or so. Unless they wouldn't recognise my studies on my exchange year. I think I wanna go visit CIMO - the place where they took us in high school. Maybe they would be able to sort my life out a bit for myself.

But I must say. When I was surfing in Portugal, I just felt so happy. "This is what I wanna do in my spare time", I thought to myself for the tenth time. And surfing is not something you can do in Finland (unless you are totally passionate, crazy and ridiculous).

We'll see.

Ps. I've just been so happy during these past five weeks that I don't want it to go away.

On the plane to Reus, Spain

19.7 On the plane to Reus, Spain

Destiny. It's a pretty interesting thing. We realized last night with Edwina, that if I hadn't met Tom, I wouldn't have been in Nottingham to meet my dear Aussie girl, because I was just so against the idea of wasting my interrail time in England. It's crazy to realize how many combinations of coincidences can affect a matter. The three Belgians are a big key in the story. Basically, these things had to happen in order for me to get to Nottingham: If Tom hadn't left on monday, I wouldn't have had a day to kill before my flight, so I wouldn't have gone to see Edwina. I wouldn't even had come to England, If I hadn't met Tom. I wouldn't have met Tom, if I hadn't stayed at the same hostel as him. I wouldn't have gone to the hostel we stayed in, If I hadn't met the three Belgian guys, who asked me to come there. And I wouldn't have met the Belgians on the train, If they had taken the right train (they were really supposed to go to Copenhagen but unfortunately - or should I say luckily - they got on the wrong train to Poznan). I wouldn't also be in Poznan if I hadn't been there to see Natalia, whom I met in Australia, and Barbara, whom I met in Mexico. So yeah. Chain of events. Butterfly effect. I don't think we would've gotten along so easily with Tom if I hadn't gone to Oz. Because I went backpacking there, we had something in common, we clicked, liked spending time with each other, and he asked me to come to London.

I'm currently on the plane to Reus, Barcelona. Honestly, I'm pretty happy getting away form England. I just hate it how much they patronise and monitor everything. I mean, they have cameras everywhere, monitoring everything. "To prevent crime." England really has an atmosphere  like in that book 1984.. Also the fact that they have all these fucking signs and announcements guiding you with everything, is doing my head in. "Mind the gap", "Please wait for your bag to move before place another one here", "Watch out for pickpockets", "Look left and right before crossing" and so forth. It really gives this feeling of the English government treating the citizens like a bunch of dumb twats that have to be guided with everything. Like a herd of blind sheep.

I might've had a bit of a wtf am I supposed to do -moment at the airport when I tried calling Mia. Her Finnish phone was turned off. Fuuuuuck. She gave me like no instructions at all how to get to their Villa in Salou. The only thing she said that there is a bus from the airport and get of at plaza Europa... err. So I just had to pay a horrible £5 on my credit card to use the Internet so I could check my facebook for Mike's/George's numbers. See, Mia's family (Mike=her big bro, my ex-classmate) and our mate George are in Salou too. Thankfully George had been a doll and had posted me the address of the place they were staying at :) Got Mike's number from a mutual friend and called him on my Finnish phone... gaaah wonder how much that will cost me :S So. It'll be interesting to see, if I do find this place :D I just know, that because this stupid flight was 20 minutes late, i'm gonna arrive at the airport at 23:20 and checking out and getting my bags will probs take another 30 minutes... So fuck, I really hope Mia and her boyfriend Dan or her parents will be home when I rock up at 1 AM. Somehow I doubt it..  Guess i'll just get some grub and sit on the steps with my backpack waiting for these two drunksters to come home.

PS. Edwina took me to Primark today so I could buy PJ shorts... and I went completely spastic.. £1 for undies ?!? fuck yes. Love that store.
PPS. WTF WE ARE LANDING ??? I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 2 HOURS. L-O-L, ok, so, seems like i'll be in Spain already at ten ! wheeeee :):):):) STOKED MONSTER.

Day trip to Utrecht & Heineken Museum

Day trip to Utrecht, 12.7

I was a bit over Amsterdam, since there was nothing really there for me since I don't smoke weed. I probably had the most tamest time (bu certainly not the lamest!) of all people in Amsterdam - I didn't do drugs, didn't sleep with prostitutes nor even got drunk ! Still doesn't mean I didn't enjoy myself :) It was so nice to just relax. Love it how Melanie and Marty are on the same page with me, since they too have traveled, all of us are just SO over drinking. Couldn't really give a fuck to get drunk. "Impulse fest", quoting my almost-relative Liina-Lotta, is alright, but I just hate hate hate it when people plan on getting drunk... In order to achieve the right mentality and feeling for the night, people predrink to get tipsy  so they can get drunk.. Doesn't make sense to me anymore (after excessive drinking in Australia).  Impulse festing on the other hand - you go out with your mates to have a beer and if you like, you can buy another one, and if it just happens so, that you are in the right mentality and feel like it, you can go ahead and get drunk. Impulse fests are way better anyways. Sorry this rant, but I've just been trying to get this to my Finnish mates' head who have no idea what i'm talking about (cause they didn't spend almost a quarter of last year INTOXICATED). Marty said something that i've been feelign but just haven't really figured how to put into words: "After I came back from Mexico in 2008, after that I haven't been able to drink the same way anymore. Something inside of me just broke on that trip." That's exactly how I feel.

Anyhooo, enough ranting for this entry.
SO yeah, I was ovr Amsterdam and wanted to do a day trip somewhere. I figured I should go to Utrecht since my mate Jasmin, who lives in Holland, has been talking about that place. It's a student town and some o he friends study there. I was actually gonna meet Jasmin there, but then she told me she wouldn't make it until late at night.

I took the train to Utrecht and started exploring the city. I liked it immediately more than Amsterdam. It was just more intimate and cute. Reminded me of Jasmin's village, Terneuzen in Neu Zeiland, near Belgium's border. I was there in 2009 for two weeks and it was just so adorable. It's freaking tiny (although according to Jasmin it has the Netherlands' largest coffee shop, Check Point ?) and I was the ONLY tourist there. I swear :D

So I was just strolling on Utrecth's streets and looking for a café to eat at but I ended up finding this cool Second Hand store !!! It's called Episode, and they have one in Amsterdam, London and some other places. It was two storeys and they had EVERYHTING. Everything was categorized - hats, old converse shoes, "bell shirts", fishnet tank tops ans so forth. I found exactly what I had been looking for - some high waisted jean hot pants !!! I just had to buy them only they costed 20e :S:S:S They were perfect except i'm not sure if they'll fit me when I go back home and when IF i gain some weight (I've lost a lot I think...). I also bought this bellyshirt (shouldn't have had, still after 2 weeks haven't used it) and this lovely, colorful, cool, crazy shirt-y thing, that just screamed my name. It's so me. I was so bad, I wasted freaking 50 euros on that shit... CAN YOU IMAGINE? My whole day budget...

I figured to be a good backpacker and buy some postcards to write back home for friends and family. I asked the shop keeper of Episode, whether he knew of a cheap café that had soups, and he asked whether I knew where place X was "no.." "Well do you havea map?" "Nope, I like getting lost :D". Anyhoo, found this café, wrote ten postcards and left back to Amsterdam.

I met Mel and her family and went to Heineken Museum with them. Her dad was so nice and paid the entry fee for me :D Learned a bit of the company and got two beers for free. I thought it was totally fucked that the museum had HORSES in it !!!! I just ran up the strairs holding my breath... Not gonna go into detail about this thing again, I think I had my horse rant already in a Magnetic Island post :D

Serena van der Cuntzen

8.7 berlin day 2

Today was a good day. Just walking around all sleep deprived with Tom :D We were pretty much just wandering around the city the whole day, laying in parks and admiring Berlin. Such a laid back day. Don’t know, there isn’t really that much to write about this day although it was pretty awesome for it’s easyness. I had this cool feeling of never being as in contact with life as I was then. For once, I was really just in the moment, and not looking forward to something else. I’ve noticed I do that a lot. My life is about expectations and build ups. Being home it’s always just looking forward that the work day is over, that my saving account is growing, in other words just looking forward to that next trip. And when i’m traveling, I just keep looking forward to the next location – or actually just that part i’m getting there. It’s the movement that I like, I guess. What matters is not the destination but the journey. I just can’t seem to enjoy myself in the moment that much. Unless i’m at a gig. That’s when I feel alive. But today was different. FOR ONCE I WAS ENJOY THE MOMENT AND NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO SOMETHING ELSE.

We were laying in this park in fron of the big az church, enjoying life, in our own thoughts, just minding our own business, when this fucking DOG ran up to us and liked my arm ! THAT FUCKER. Ok, i’m glad it didn’t lick my face – that’s why I blocked it with my arm. But fuck. Thanks to those fucking lousy dog owners, I got a nasty hives in my arm. It was crazy how fast it happened. In 30 seconds the skin, that had been in contact with the saliva (although I washed my arm staright away !), got red with white bumps appearing on it. Thank god not on my face though.

Anyway. We saw these really cool looking bunch of people near a park with the Berlin Fashion Week tent (yeah didn’t know about this before I arrived) that were really trendy. Wanted to snap a picture of them cause from one look at this mixed group of Berliners you could tell what the city was about – fashion and liberalness. When Tom pleasantly asked, whether we could take a picture of them, all we got was a dramatic FUCK YOU from this obviously gay guy. Apparently we had intruded in the middle of some nasty drama that was going on between the kids. Too bad, they were really desperately stylish in their own ways.

Then. God damnit. I spotted Serena van der Cuntzen aka Blake Lively, the star from Gossip Girl. That bitch ruined my day. Don’t think I hate anyone’s character as much as her’s on TV :D

Anyway we got some asian food at the train station and I said bye to Tom who was heading to Switserland for the weekend. He asked me a couple of times to come to London (he’s going there after the weekend) so I might just do that...

Thoughts on the train to Poznan

6.7 on the train to poznan

I went for a walk yesterday in Samborowo. Just me and my camera for a couple of hours. As I was strolling the path to the river where we used to fish with Dziadek (granpa) I just realized how happy I was to be here alone. Just felt so peaceful. I know it's too early to say, but I think I love traveling alone. The absolute freedom to do whatever you want is just so welcoming. Not having to please anyone else but yourself and being aloud to just wander in your own thoughts is such an experience. I love it how this is MY time.

Of course when I was showing my relatives the videos from my trip to Oz, I did miss Laura and Melanie. Amazing girls, love them to death. I'm happy to see Melanie in a couple of days and can't wait to be cracking up on dirty little hamster -jokes :) I also can't wait for Laura to do her exchange year in Frace/Switserland/Spain/where ever the hell she decides to go, so that we can finally have a reunion with the three of us again !

But i'm pretty sure I couldn't go traveling with a permanent travel buddy again. Not unless that person is very independent. We were actually talking about this with Edwina, the Australian girl, at our hostel in Sopot. She also finds independency a must in travel buddies. I just hate it when people can't be alone for even one second ! Like come on, if you wanna go for a hike and I wanna surf, it's o-k-a-y to go our separate ways for a couple of hours and meet in the evening yeah ? It won't kill anyone to be a second alone (not unless you're in a scary movie).

I don't mind traveling with someone, i'm actually looking forward to meeting new people and maybe tagging along in their travels for a bit, but I like the idea of being able to ditch the crew if I feel like it. haha I sound like a horrible person, but srsly, try traveling with someone for four months and then go travel by yourself and you'll know what i'm talking about.

But yeah, it's 7:21 right now and i'm sitting in the train to Poznan from Ostróda. As you can see, I decided to stay a bit longer in Samborowo than intended. First I was thinking of just being there for the day but since I only arrived at 8 in the evening and I heard my cousins were coming the next evening, I decided to chilax a bit more at the summercottage. But yeah, I have to catch up with previous days' bloging cause i'm a bit behind on that. Sucks that these trains don't have WiFi unlike in Finland... I'll have to post like a weeks amount of entries at one time... MAN !

Ps. Had such an Polish breakkie and lunch yesterday... bóki z Pasztetem (buns with pâté) and Cucumber soup with macaron and meat mushroom sauce... yummy, love Babcia's (granny's) cooking <3
PPS. Got to see my auntie Malgocia and my cousins Adriana and Konrad too :)
PPPS. Everytime I listen to Cut Copy - Sands of Time (Original Mix) -just like now- I feel like the world is FULL of opportunities

PS. Olin eilen Metropolian Kulttuurituotannon kokeen ensimmäisessä osassa, ja meni ihan helvetin hyvin! :) Sinne pyrki yli _600_, ja ennakkotehtävien perusteella 100 hakijaa kutsuttiin kokeeseen (hyvä minä!). Viikon sisällä saan kuulla, jos pääsen haastatteluun. Pitäkää peukkuja.
