Rock Werchter Day 1
LIKE A BAWS - Didn't even have to show my passport at Helsinki-Vantaa airport's counter, cause the lady recognized me ;) The journey to Belgium started in a neat way for Masa as well, when he was informed that they had overbooked his flight. We were supposed to fly to Brussels with different companies, I with Finnair and Masa with KLM through Amsterdam. Since there was no space on KLM's flight, they switched him on FINNAIR'S flight - the same one as me! - that was a straight flight to Brussels and they even gave him 150€ worth of vouchers for KLM :D So all in all he paid 35€ for the flight... What's best was when they apologized that unfortunately they didn't have a window seat left on Finnair's flight 8D Masa must've been devastated ! Oh, and the fortunes continued when we realized there was a seat next to mine free, so we got to sit next to each other : )
The adventure continued in Brussels when we noticed that Masa's luggage was no where to be seen ! : D Oh well, I'm sure Masa didn't mind the 70€ worth of necessities (does that include beer?) he got to purchase on Finnair's expense ;) After some H&M shopping and Carrefour we set out to the train station where we took the train to Leuven where we hopped on the Rock Werchter Bus. We were a bit bummed to get our camping spot at camping A4 cause it seemed a bit dead... we were just next to the cool camping site A3, where I had been staying in 2009! Walking the road to from the camping site to the festival was slightly deja vuish, since that's when I actually realized I was staying in the camping site next to the one where I used to stay. Walking that straight road some twenty times three years ago had burned the image in my mind so vividly that no matter how everything might've looked the same with the trees and all, I knew I was walking the same road.
Masa's "luggage" hahahah
Swopped our e-tickets to our wristies (which were mainly white.. noo) and got our vouchers. We had time to kill as the first and only bands we wanted to see that day were The Kooks and Justice which were starting at 00:00 and 01:15 so we got some beer and went to see what else the festival had to offer. We stumbled upon Netsky playing in Pyramid Marquee and stayed to watch the young guy dj. My bro had said something about Netsky to me and he was actually pretty good, regardless that he was playing drum n bass which I usually hate to dance to!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_5KDk3IJ-k&feature=youtu.be
Next we checked out Selah Sue, a Belgian female artist I had never heard of but which pleasantly surprised me with her combination of reggae, soul and jazz. She had a beautiful voice which created a nice and chill atmosphere in the setting sun. After her performance that we had been watching as we were sitting outside The Barn, we headed back to the Pyramid Marquee which was full of people waiting to hear Skream ft. Sgt Pokes. I hadn't ever listened to Skream but knew the name from a lot of my mates so figured he was worth checking out. And right I was, weird how dubstep, a genre I rarely listen to as 99,9% of it seems to be shit, turns appealing when you are dancing to it outside in the dark with ten thousand people as the lights flicker...!
Since I was mesmerized by dancing to the hypnotizing beat, I decided to skip The Kooks as I had already seen them the previous year in Heineken Open'er. Masa left to see the band and we decided to meet up in our meeting spot after Justice. As Skream ended his set, I walked to the Mainstage and wondered who the f*ck was on stage before I realized it was The Cure. Not really my cup of tea but they were nearly done with their set so I didn't mind. Not bad though from Robert Smith - age really seems to only be a number!
I ran to line to get in front as in Werchter they have this system that they only let a number of people in to the second closest area of the stage and then close the gates so that no more people can come in (and thus the risk of people getting squished is diminished). From the second area there are one more set of gates from which the willing - the true fans - can enter to the nearest area - to the are where the magic happens!
So naturally I got to the first area - cause it's just in my genes to get into the front row if I will ;D Waited impatiently for Justice and was super stoked when they began ! But... I was really disappointed... The songs were mixed in a really terrible way, and the remixes intros weren't really something that people could dance to... Seemed like the French DJ duo were just really bored of their minds and willing to see how far away they could get with fucking around with the crowd. Then again, might just be that I'm comparing them to the first time I saw them in Provinssirock 2008. That time they were fucking amazing - I might've been pissed drunk that night but I remember dancing my ass off with this reporter girl from NY and being amazed by the light show and how everything was mixed so well together. Maybe like in Provinssirock Justice should've been situated in the Marquee tent ? Some acts, and usually most electronic/dj sets are way better in an intimate tent setting. Also, seemed like Justice had nothing new to offer. I mean, yeah i've heard that they have a new album and I've heard Civilization but that song just really bores me and doesn't make me intrigued to check out their latest abum.. Kinda seems like Justice has come to the end of its life.
Also one thing that really got me aggravated and might've been the reason to spoil my Justice experience was the crowd... HOW FUCKING RUDE WERE PEOPLE? I mean, usually when I go to a gig / festival, the music is such an amazing thing that it connects people and creates this sense of community. So no matter if I'm in a gig with Finnish people - which are the most socially retarded people in the whole white world - I know that if I'll look at a total stranger and smile at them, they'll do the same and we'll sing along together like we're long lost friends. But not these Belgians. They would respond to a smile by ignoring you and looking in the other direction ??? :D Luckily I bumped into two Dutchies which one resembled my mate Tom along his Aussie accent he had picked up from an Aussie mate and the other's eyes were an exact copy of Ryan Kwanten's chocolate eyes <3 ! I raved with them and I felt way better :) After the gig we met up with Masa who was super tired and decided to go straight to bed and I soon catched up with him.
Not bad for a first day :)

MEGA FAIL
Don't know how to begin but basically, I fucked up big time : DDDD
Basically, I received an email from Finnair and realized I had booked the wrong motherfucking flights.
Do you notice something's wrong ?
Yep yep, quite much EFFORT to fly from Brussels to Helsinki when you're not in Belgium for starters... Megafaaaaaail. That's what happens when you find a cheaper ticket on the last minute and when you are pretty accustomed to buying plane tickets aka you get sloppy.
I was fucking choked, called Finnair but they can't do anything about it. + It's not like I booked the flights 15 minutes ago... I bought them two weeks ago and noticed only now when they sent me my itinerary or what ever. So yeaaah, good fucking luck getting to Rock Werchter ! (Probs forgot to mention but me and Masa are going!)
I just might might might might be able to turn things around.. we'll see! First have to contact some people and etc.
But if not... this is what IS going to happen (as I am broke, in debt and have no money to buy a new ticket):

Got a ride in a motherfcking JAGUAR !!

MADE IT !
Photos from 2009 summer when me and Jasmin hitched from Terneuzen (Holland) to Gent (Belgium) so we could catch the train to the same festival I am aiming for this year - ROCK WERCHTER !!!!
-BUT, happen what happens, the fact is, that there is no way in HELL I am missing Rock Werchter and e.g. Kasabian & Deadmau5 play...! HELL NO-
Keep your fingers crossed and I'll keep you guys posted!
PS. There is this one thing that happened to me for the first time ever ! Two days ago this girl came up to me at work and told me she read my blog !! aww, made me so happy ! So, if you read my blog and see me, come say hi! I don't bite, I promise :)

"Yesterday is history, today is a gift, the next 60 minutes is mystery... waiting in line for #tomorrowland"
Ok... I'm just gonna update my blog although I have no time and I should be studying (we are leaving on the 20th for our Eurotrip but due to tutoring at the entrance exams among tons of other things, I have only 7 days left to complete all my projects, assignments and read the required million chapters for 5 exams).
It's just that I overdosed on caffeine YET AGAIN and I can't sit still... When will I learn that if I consume a can of energy drink / a cup of coffee, I can't concentrate at all? Although I know my lack of tolerance for caffeine I ALWAYS dismiss this fact and end up wasting the day jittering and bouncing around...
So anyway... Didn't end up getting the Tomorrowland tickets... SO CHOKED !!!
I was on tomorrowland's website well before the ticket sale and I got in the queue with a "wait for 2 minutes"- nevertheless I got redirected to the purchase site only 25 minutes later.. I was about to purchase four 3-day tickets along with camping ticket (for me + my class mates and her ppl) when an error occured?!? "Payment unauthorized" ummm.. what the fuck ?
Luckily I had another tab opened so I didn't have to queue again - I got in the purchase phase right away. I tried to purchase 4 x fri + sat + sunday -tickets + camping. "Payment unauthorized" ARE YOU FUCKING KIDING ME???
After 2 hours of lining, whining and crying on Twitter (sorry about the tens of thousands of rants posted) I admitted, the tickets had ran out. They were actually sold out in 45 minutes but Tomorrowland was confirming with the banks whether the payments had gone thorough - that's why the final info only came 2 hours later. It's just so unfair.. to this day I still have no idea why it wouldn't accept my payment.. :( I've purchased tons of stuff from sites and even bought festival tickets from ANOTHER BELGIAN festival so I really can't figure out what's the deal..
I'm just so choked because this has never happened to me - If I decide I'm going somewhere, I'm really going to make it happen. It all just depends on me - Well, not this time.
Well anyway, guess I'll just have to make CREAMFIELDS happen ;) I was DYING to go there last year but couldn't due to school. This year's the line up looks ever better (BETTER THAN TOMORROWLANDS BY A MILLION! Actually Tomorrowland's was quite poor [at least byt the looks of what they've announced so far]) and since i'll be a second grader in Fall, my school starts a week later ;)
Who's in? ;)
PS. Did anyone else have the displeasure of experiencing Tomorrowland's shit-of-a-queuing-system?

Anyone up for TOMORROWLAND ?
Hahaaaa just as I suspected !!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7CdTAiaLes
Six months ago, when everyone was hyping the Tomorrowland 2011 Official After Movie, E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E was claiming "they will like toooootally be there next year" ... as if!
..And just as I suspected (read my crystal ball, you know) 97% of the people would just be all talk and no action. TYPICAL!

Anywayz, i'll still be making my way to Boom, Belgium in the end of July, although I have no fucking idea who is actually going... Better purchase a ticket now (ticket sale starts in 13,5 hours!) than cry later ;) So will be interesting.. Will I be heading to this festival all by myself? Heard at least that some Aussie mates might be going (at least they're buying their tickets tomo!).
IS ANYONE GOING? Wouldn't mind the company.

Rock Werchter Line Up
Picture
I have decided to make Rock Werchter happen. This festival, that gathers all the best rock / electronic music acts together is situated in the small village of Werchter, Belgium and is only a train ride away from the student town Gent. The best festival I have ever been to (musically) is Rock Werchter 2009, without a doubt. It came with no surprise when in that year they also won the "Best line-up of 2009" -award of European festivals, among other credits.
Flow Festival 2009
I actually attended this festival almost completely sober (not counting the couple beers I had one day) - but yet had the time of my life. It's all in the music and it's the thing that gets you high. I also met someone pretty cool that got me into traveling and made me get off my ass and start doing something with my life (aka traveling) ! Thanks Tom for being such and inspiration :)
I actually made a decision after 2009 that I wouldn't attend the festival anymore, because I didn't want to ruin all the sweet memories I had from that festival... But, what can you do when all your favorite artists and bands are going to Werchter!
Rock Werchter 2009 had the sickest line up (The Prodigy, Coldplay, White Lies, Fleet Foxes, Röyksopp, Lily Allen etc etc etc etc) and I saw 23 of my top bands/artists. This year will be no different by the looks of the first names they've announced. So far, the acts that I wanna see (and note that there are three categories and the first one, "The Acts I am DYING to See!!!" is the one that has influenced the deciding factor of going to this festival!) are...:
The Acts I am DYING to See !!! :
DEADMAU5
Picture
I saw this mastermind last summer in Poland and it was MIND BLOWINGLY GOOD. . Actually so good that me and Edwina might've danced around and sat on random guys shoulders in our bras....
JUSTICE

Picture
Justice among with Deadmau5 are in the top of my Best Gigs -i've seen (and trust me, i've seen many !). I saw this French duo back in the day on 2008 in good ol' Provinssi Rock. Although I was pretty beer-happy, I remember being in shock of how INCREDIBLE Justice was live and dancing hand-in-hand with this reporter from New York! A total must-see again act!!!
KASABIAN

Picture
My ONLY _FAVOURITE_ band I still haven't seen! Oh the tragedy of last summer of not being able to go to T in the Park in Scotland.. I f*ing love love love this band to death and I can only imagine the amount of shivers this band will set down my spine! I better pack a winter coat with me ! ;)
The Acts I would also like to see:
WOLFMOTHER

Picture
I was actually a bit bummed that I didn't see this Stoner Rock band from Sydney in Australia, but oh well, I guess it I am meant to see them this year ;) Everyone from this amazing band split up after the first record - only the singer stayed and assembled a new group of musicians under the same band name. The second album came out but still sounded as good as with the old assembly ;) When ever I listen to their songs I just thing about the days when my n my bro among friends would use to skateboard in the empty pool of this park/kindergarden. Good ol' days.
FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE

Picture
Just play "Hurricane Drunk" and it takes me back to the crazy summer of 2010... Those were the days.. Haven't really gotten into her new album yet - maybe I should!
KATY B

Picture
I really like the sound of this English lady but although I find some of her tunes brilliantly catchy, other are a bit meh. Oh well, maybe she'll put on some kind of show in Pyramid Marque -tent ;)
Other Acts I also see (but that i'm not that overly stoked about)
SNOW PATROL
![]()
Picture
Have you guys noticed how all their songs are about "you" ? I'm intrigued how these guys will perform at A FESTIVAL as their songs moods aren't that uplifting... At least in their older albums - don't know about the newest one.
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS
![]()

Picture
I saw these guys in Poland in 2007. The gig was held at this huuuuge stadium in Chorzow, near Kraków. The guys had two warm-up acts (The Jet and Mickey Avalon) and after that they put on a 2,5 hours show. It was pretty good although I was a bit disappointed that the only lines Anthony spoke were "Hello Poland. I don't think we've met." Anyway, after since I've lost interest in the band and couldn't name any songs from their new album.
n Crystal Snow n me @ Flow 2009
...Anyways guys, i'm STOKED and keeping my fingers crossed everything goes as planned money-wise... (Or you'll be reading 50 000 blog entries about whining) I can't wait to see what other jewels will be joining the ever-so amazing line-up!
PS. it's 5:06 am right now as I've finished editing this (yep, this is a times entry)... Shouldn't have drank that energy drink half past ten in the evening! oh well, at least i'm doing something useful...
keskiviikko 8. helmikuuta 2012
P*RN
Okey, hey, so wtf.
I realized how fucking pissed off I would be, if I would miss the opportunity to see all my fav acts (I'll make a post later about them) in Rock Werchter. I was thinking "ohh maan.. I wish artist1 and artist2 and artist 3 and artist4 would go to some festival so I could see them...". Well, come on, they are in Rock Werchter - what are the chances you'll see all of those 4 acts TOGETHER at the same festival? I mean, last summer Deadmau5 only performed three times in Europe (and I got to see him !!!) and so far, there's really no other festivals (I could make it to) that he is attending.
So I did a bit of calculations (European Markets -lesson nearly put me to sleep... 2-5pm lessons should be forbidden!!) - as usual - and realized that I can make it happen, goddamn. 3 000€ is nada. It's only 14 friday+saturday -evening shifts, excluding taxes. (But still on that note I haven't "been able" [ei pystyyy] booked any shifts although school is canceled for tomo and thursday!!!)
Oh well, I've sent out some CV's and résumés (hate hate hate drafting them!!!)) this evening AND I have actually been to an job interview just today!!! :) We were supposed to do some school work at my mates place last Sunday, and the idea was to meet up at 12. Well, my phone's battery had ran out so I hadn't received the notice of post-poning it with an hour. Gleb had just arrived from Russia so he wanted to sleep. While he was consulting the pillow I sent out _two_ CV's and tadaaaa, got an job interview a day later ;)

I was SO relieved when I arrived to the interview and found out that it would be in ENGLISH!!! :) R-E-L-I-E-F. I had just been thinking on the tram how I wished I could be interviewed in English because I have a hard time coming up with the proper words in Finnish... (And has anyone EVER had a successful small talk with someone in Finnish?? I just feel so much smoother with English!) I don't sound that professional (especially if I can't think of the word/phrase and just blurt it out in English). Pretty sad for my mothertongue, but hey, nothing new! Eri juttu, jos saan kirjottaa :)
Anyhoo, I don't think i'll be getting that job since the working hours contradict with school ;/ Oh well. Gotta find something else.
PS. Man... The level of the jobs you'll apply to when you really hate your job... man, if I get the job, I think i'll just forget to inform my dad that his daughter works at a porn shop. Yep Yep.
Deadmau-five

DEADMAU5 - Heineken Open'er Day 4 pt. 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-RopDgjh6w
Skip till 2:47
Deadmau5 was fucking insane. It was the artist I had been anticipating for the most. We went to the front area with Edwina and Joanna and just fucking raved. We were so into it with Edwina that we took our shirts off and danced in our bras. Climbed on top of random guys’ shoulders and cheered with the crowds. Edwina sent me this link to this video someone had filmed at the festival and the person was flming the screen also – from the video screen you got a good 20 second glimps of us in our bras... hahah oh lord : D can’t wait for the official video. Deadmau5 started with Some Chords and the crowd exploded. When Cthulhu Sleeps came on, I was froffin’. It was sick cause I only just recently (like some 4 days prior) had discovered the song. I got interested about it because of its name. I had been reading about Cthulhu, the monster, from this facebook group, so that’s why I pretty much got into it. But damn that song is so good. So simple yet with an edge. I went absolutely crazy when Sofi came on stage. For a second I was wondering why the fuck would M.I.A come back on the stage (as also she is so shit), but soon realized the difference. I love that girl’s way to sing. It’s so incredibly aggresive and angry. Sofi Needs A Ladder, One Trick Pony (man she must want to kill that guy she is singing about in that song).. Deadmau5 also played Raise your weapon, which is too slow in my opinion, but everyone else seems to love it. I just like the drum n bass part. . I went crowdsurfing for the first time in my life which was epic... Did it a couple of times and people were trying to pull my pants down (on purpose?) so I had to keep them up with my hands?! :D I lost Edwina and Joanna after doing this, which was waaay in the begining, so I felt a bit awkward being the only one in my bra amongst the crowd, but I soon found my soul mate aka an also shirtless guy, Sanders from Belgium. Together we danced and moshed the shit out of each other. The crowd was going crazy over mosh pits and I was taking part too, although I ALWAYS fear for my teeth and what not. The men in the crowd were fucking loosing it for Deadmau5 and I swear, I was the girl, that was the most esctatic about the gig. I don’t know whether Deadmau5 has ever taken his head off (the mouse head) -I have a feeling not – but in the festival he did!!!! Maybe we just amaized him with our passion ;) Talking about being passionate, I totally lost my shit when I Remember came on..... I mean, I’ve been totally over playing that song :D That’s like the song we played the most on our two week roadtrip in OZ... :D When Deadmau5 walked off the stage we screamed for encore but unfortunately he didn’t come back. Oh well, it was almost 4 am already..
Joanna decided to go back to the hostel to sleep but me and Edwina still wanted to check the Silent Disco. We met these two Kiwi guys - Damon and Daniel – they had come from New Zealand to study sports in Germany. They were alright and rocking the accent but man was Daniel dumb as a brick. He had this weird kinda nervous laugh almost at every end of his sentence and he didn’t even know what a taboo was... Really?! Unfortunaltely the Silent Disco was closed but we met Arthut and Carlos ! We started to walk with the six of us and the Kiwies went to the camp site. We continued to the area where they change your tickets into wristbands and where you can buy beer / food etc. And it was crazy ! The beer tent was still open ! It as light as shit, the sun was coming up, everyone was filled with adrenalin and endorfin from the Deadmau5 concert and dancing like crazy ! The beer tent was playing music and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. We were sober az from all that dancing at Deadmau5 and in such a good mood that we decided to get beers just for ”fiilistelyks”. Edwina said we have to leave after two songs cause they had to catch a plane, so they still had to go back to the hostel to get their shit. As we were leaving from the grounds I heard a familiar tune and screamed ”JUSTICE!” and ran to danceto the beat wth Carlos. We left Edwina and Arthur standing on the path but when we returned we didn’t find them there so we just assumed they had taken the bus to the train station and where waiting for us there. Funny thing though, when me and Carlos were only 30 seconds away from the train station, Arthur calls us and asks where we are. Turns out they were still waiting for us at the festival grounds :D Fail. Waited for them and when we finally got to sleep it was half past six in the morning already. Good times.

Good times.

Heineken Open'er Day 4 pt. 1
Festival day 4 was such a good day. Woke up just to find a missed called from Mia. She had left to get her boyfriend Dan form the airport. Well, kinda didn’t expect to wake up... God knows when I went to sleep. Me and the boys walked Mia home cause she had to get up early but we continued to a club to dance although no drink where drank after she left.
Realized my no-apetite-what-so-ever had really kicked in. Trying to eat that toast was such a mission impossible so I just settled for water and such. Sat in the garden with Edwina, Carlos and Arthur. The boys left somewhere and we had a good chat with Edwina about traveling and such. Good chat. Good chat. Got my speaker from my bag and put on my iPod. Was so good. Edwina was amazed about my triple J podcasts (”AMAZING ! How do YOU have so much ausse music on your iPod”). She was also pretty stoked about Bliss n Eso, Drpaht, Hilltop Hoods and other Aussie treats haha 8) Other people started to come sit with us: Marciano the Mexican and his Polish wife, Joanna and her uncle that didn’t say a word, just smiled :D
At three someone got everyone a beer since the sun had finally come out! We were just laying in hammocks, talking, chilling and enjoying the music :) Texted Mia and told her to come overcause she was srsly missing out and she said they would. Her and Dan were in Sopot and had been drinking for the past three hours. As everyone finished their beers, me and Arthur decided to get people a couple more + some snacks.
Finally Mia nad Dan arrived at half past five, they brought a 24-pack of beer for the nine of us and we ordered pizza which was pretty disguisting, only had like 2,5 slices. After an hour everyone started to leave to the festival site cause we were in a hurry to see The Wombats. That’s when me and Mia got separated – her and Dan and Carlos took a taxi to arrive faster at the festival site when everyone took the train.
So we snuck a couple of small vodka bottles with our group to the festival site and watched The Wombats. They were better in Tavastia in Finland but I loved how modest they were ! They just took they’re time to stay cheer ith the band and throw out drum sticks and such :)
The Stroke were awesome... Everyone was just dancing and feeling the music. Julian, the lead singer, was a bit of a dickhead in my opinion, cause he didn't take his sunnies off although it was pitch black dark... image...

Heineken Open'er Day 2
DAY 2 01.07

He asuivat lapsineen Texasissa. Eli kaikki oli ihan from all over the place :D

Festarialue on kuitenkin suunniteltu vähän huonosti, koska kävelyetäisyydet on maratoonimaisen pitkät.
