Arriving in Poznan & Berlin

Arriving in Poznan and Berlin 6.7

Woke up a couple of times during the night just to realize it was still a couple of hours before my wake up call. I had to pee bad, but I coulnd't be bothered to get out of my sleeping bag and the caravan to the cottage, so I just decided to carry on sleeping. When finally my grandparents, my aunt and my cousin Adriana drove me to Ostróda station and I got on my train, it was 7:21. I forgot to write down the departing information on my interrail ticket, but luckily the conductor was a nice man and let it slip. Don't know how strict they really are about this stuff.

I arrived in Poznan at 12 and went straight away to the post office to send off some of the unnecessary items I was carrying with me, such as the gummies I had bought for the rainy day at the festival, my rain poncho (It was annoying to pack each time), my mozzie repellent (it's not like they bite me anyways), my second Spannish book (hey who am I kidding, still haven't had time to even open up the first book), too many pairs of shorts I had taken with me and some other clothes. Cost me like 15 euros but what ever. Now there's space in my backpack again and I got rid of 3kg :)

Headed from there to Maccas OF COURSE. When in need of WiFi, just go there to sort your business out. I was freaking out when I saw the f*cking video Edwina the Aussie girl had posted on my wall. Some dude had been filming at the Deadmau5-show, and got a good 20 second glimps of the gig screen and me and Edwina raving on some guys’ shoulders in are bras .... EPIC :D But yeah, I went to Maccas to sort some shit out. I was tryinna figure out where to stay in Berlin for the night. I was not looking forward to paying for accom cause I had thought that it would be a longer ride from Poznan to Berlin than 3 hours. So I was counting on spending the night at a night train. Looking for a hostel felt so tirying, even more so, cause I was so damn exhausted form the festival. At one point I felt like I could take no more (every hostel was like booked for the night / they were far away form the train station) and felt like giving up and just laying in a starfish position in the middle of McDonalds’ floor. So mentally exhausted. I realized thought that I had no other chance than to carry on and book a freakign hostel.
After all that jazz I reserved my train ticket and started walking to the old square _with_ my backpack (couldn’t be arsed to leave it at the station) in the middle of the freaking zebra pass bumped into Marciano and Joanna ! I knew they were gonna be in Poznan for the Manu Chao concert but it was just so weird yet pleasant bumping into them randomly :) In my sweaty and heavy 20 minute walk to the square I managed to buy new black fake converse ! And they were only 4 euro ! I threw the old hole-y WET ones out and hang my new ones on my backpack. AND I MET BARBARA :)

I went for lunch with her and Natalia joined us too since my train was only gonna leave in 2,5 hours. It was so lovely to see the girls <3 Barbara I had met in 2009 in the Lion’s Youth Exchange in Mexico and Natalia in October in Mission Beach. They were so nice and insisted on payign my bill ”since I was a backpacker” ! :D ridiculous. good karma hey.

I panicked on not making my train but luckily i made it 5 minuted before its departure. I didn’t have to worry about sitting by myself cause right away i nthe corridor I met three good looking Belgians.

”Do you know whether we have to sit in our places?”
”I don’t know, we didn’t reserve a place...”
”Really? :D Well can I just sit with you guys until we get evicted by the conductor.”

And so I met my first travel buddies ! Dan, Peter and Jonas were pretty amaized by my knowledge of Belgian language (well Dutch really but they understand it)... Just as I suspected, I shouldn’t have reserved a hostel for the first night. ”What if I meet nice people on the train?” And the boys asked whether I would like to just stay with them since I was a lonely wolf :D I was happy to ditch my hostel which was god knows where. Don’t really care about the 19 euros that’s gonna be charged on my credit card from the reservation, I just wanted to stay somewhere close. PLUS i was so exhausted.

It also came in handy for the boys, that I spoke Polish because the conductor wasn’t too happy with them not having a reserved seat. I asked whether we could buy them now and things got sorted. I also got rid of my zlotes (polish currency) because the boys lacked them and so they changed they euros for my zlotes! ;)

But arriving to Berlin didn’t go as smooth as sound as we thought. Just as we got out of the train and were standing on the platform we heard an alarmingly loud man voice scream and a shout to STOOOOP STOOOOOP STOOOOP. We turned around to see what the fuck was going on – and the moment froze – as the train had began to move, the door was still open with a lady hanging from the knob. As the train sped up she was desperately trying to get in but could not just make it. The man – her husband assumably – was still shouting for them to stop the train and I was just too scared and in shock to watch anymore. If the woman would loose her grip of the speeding train, she would fall on the tracks and die. A miracle happend and some how she made her way on the wagon. Someone must have helped her in. We were just in full shock standing there and trying to make of what just happened. I was just to happy to see that the woman got in and hear her man screaming loudly at the conductors on the station.

Peter, Dan & Jonas

I believe thought that everything happens for a reason I think this served as a good wake up call to watch out more and not be oblivious about everything.

Thoughts on the train to Poznan

6.7 on the train to poznan

I went for a walk yesterday in Samborowo. Just me and my camera for a couple of hours. As I was strolling the path to the river where we used to fish with Dziadek (granpa) I just realized how happy I was to be here alone. Just felt so peaceful. I know it's too early to say, but I think I love traveling alone. The absolute freedom to do whatever you want is just so welcoming. Not having to please anyone else but yourself and being aloud to just wander in your own thoughts is such an experience. I love it how this is MY time.

Of course when I was showing my relatives the videos from my trip to Oz, I did miss Laura and Melanie. Amazing girls, love them to death. I'm happy to see Melanie in a couple of days and can't wait to be cracking up on dirty little hamster -jokes :) I also can't wait for Laura to do her exchange year in Frace/Switserland/Spain/where ever the hell she decides to go, so that we can finally have a reunion with the three of us again !

But i'm pretty sure I couldn't go traveling with a permanent travel buddy again. Not unless that person is very independent. We were actually talking about this with Edwina, the Australian girl, at our hostel in Sopot. She also finds independency a must in travel buddies. I just hate it when people can't be alone for even one second ! Like come on, if you wanna go for a hike and I wanna surf, it's o-k-a-y to go our separate ways for a couple of hours and meet in the evening yeah ? It won't kill anyone to be a second alone (not unless you're in a scary movie).

I don't mind traveling with someone, i'm actually looking forward to meeting new people and maybe tagging along in their travels for a bit, but I like the idea of being able to ditch the crew if I feel like it. haha I sound like a horrible person, but srsly, try traveling with someone for four months and then go travel by yourself and you'll know what i'm talking about.

But yeah, it's 7:21 right now and i'm sitting in the train to Poznan from Ostróda. As you can see, I decided to stay a bit longer in Samborowo than intended. First I was thinking of just being there for the day but since I only arrived at 8 in the evening and I heard my cousins were coming the next evening, I decided to chilax a bit more at the summercottage. But yeah, I have to catch up with previous days' bloging cause i'm a bit behind on that. Sucks that these trains don't have WiFi unlike in Finland... I'll have to post like a weeks amount of entries at one time... MAN !

Ps. Had such an Polish breakkie and lunch yesterday... bóki z Pasztetem (buns with pâté) and Cucumber soup with macaron and meat mushroom sauce... yummy, love Babcia's (granny's) cooking <3
PPS. Got to see my auntie Malgocia and my cousins Adriana and Konrad too :)
PPPS. Everytime I listen to Cut Copy - Sands of Time (Original Mix) -just like now- I feel like the world is FULL of opportunities

Samborowo

After taking the train from Gdansk and switching it in iława and Olsztyn,  I finally found myself in Samborowo hugging my grandparents. It had been weird when I drove past the town to Olsztyn (few trains a day stop in actual Samborowo), I had been looking out of the window and saw this bridge on a river with some people on it fishing. "Just like in Samborowo" - But even before I saw the small houses I realized that what I was actually staring at, was Samborowo :D

I can't remember the last time I have been here. It's at least 7 years, because that's when this huuuuge forest, that consists of hundreds of planted trees, was created there  where used to be a field. And I never knew about this forest to this day. Me and my cousins used to have all sorts of games and indian tents but I think it's good, that they now have a forest instead of  another field.

I know for sure, that I wasn't here when I hit puberty, cause I just can't picture myself being at Babcia's & Dzadek's (gramma & granpa's) summer cottage all angsty. I have this slight feeling I might've been in fourth grade the last time i was here, cause I remember, that one summer when I was pretty close to this one Joonas-guy in my class, we were texting and I was in Samborowo.. Random! So yeah, probably was here 9 years ago the last time. Shit. That's a long time. I used to spend so many summers here and I would love it.

Somethings had changed: the gate had been switched, the trees were huge az  (when I was a little girl you could actually see the person standing across the yard from the cottage, but now the whole view is blocked by these big pine trees), the raspberry plantation had been cut down and on the place of the barn was this shed-on with a hammock hanging inside of it.

But although somethings had changed, it seemed like time had stopped in some ways: Everything in Babcia&Dziadek's house was on the same place, they still ate sandwiches for breakfast and supper and also the peaceful atmosphere and calming smell from the pine trees had remained.

It was good to be back.

DEADMAU5 - Heineken Open'er Day 4 pt. 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-RopDgjh6w
Skip till 2:47

Deadmau5 was fucking insane. It was the artist I had been anticipating for the most. We went to the front area with Edwina and Joanna and just fucking raved. We were so into it with Edwina that we took our shirts off and danced in our bras. Climbed on top of random guys’ shoulders and cheered with the crowds. Edwina sent me this link to this video someone had filmed at the festival and the person was flming the screen also – from the video screen you got a good 20 second glimps of us in our bras... hahah oh lord : D can’t wait for the official video. Deadmau5 started with Some Chords and the crowd exploded. When  Cthulhu Sleeps came on, I was froffin’. It was sick cause I only just recently (like some 4 days prior) had discovered the song. I got interested about it because of its name. I had been reading about Cthulhu, the monster, from this facebook group, so that’s why I pretty much got into it. But damn that song is so good. So simple yet with an edge. I went absolutely crazy when Sofi came on stage. For a second I was wondering why the fuck would M.I.A come back on the stage (as also she is so shit), but soon realized the difference. I love that girl’s way to sing. It’s so incredibly aggresive and angry. Sofi Needs A Ladder, One Trick Pony (man  she must want to kill that guy she is singing about in that song).. Deadmau5 also played Raise your weapon, which is too slow in my  opinion, but everyone else seems to love it. I just like the drum n bass part. . I went crowdsurfing for the first time in my life which was epic... Did it a couple of times and people were trying to pull my pants down (on purpose?) so I had to keep them up with my hands?! :D I lost Edwina and Joanna after doing this, which was waaay in the begining, so I felt a bit awkward being the only one in my bra amongst the crowd, but I soon found my soul mate aka an also shirtless guy, Sanders from Belgium. Together we danced and moshed the shit out of each other. The crowd was going crazy over mosh pits and I was taking part too, although I ALWAYS fear for my teeth and what not. The men in the crowd were fucking loosing it for Deadmau5 and I swear, I was the girl, that was the most esctatic about the gig. I don’t know whether Deadmau5 has ever taken his head off (the mouse head) -I have a feeling not – but in the festival he did!!!! Maybe we just amaized him with our passion ;) Talking about being passionate, I totally lost my shit when I Remember came on..... I mean, I’ve been totally over playing that song :D That’s like the song we played the most on our two  week roadtrip in OZ... :D When Deadmau5 walked off the stage we screamed for encore but unfortunately he didn’t come back. Oh well, it was almost 4 am already..

Joanna decided to go back to the hostel to sleep but me and Edwina still wanted to check the Silent Disco. We met these two Kiwi guys - Damon and Daniel – they had come from New Zealand to study sports in Germany. They were alright and rocking the accent but man was Daniel dumb as a brick. He had this weird kinda nervous laugh almost at every end of his sentence and he didn’t even know what a taboo was... Really?! Unfortunaltely the Silent Disco was closed but we met Arthut and Carlos ! We started to walk with the six of us and the Kiwies went to the camp site. We continued to the area where they change your tickets into wristbands and where you can buy beer / food etc. And it was crazy ! The beer tent was still open ! It as light as shit, the sun was coming up, everyone was filled with adrenalin and endorfin from the Deadmau5 concert and dancing like crazy ! The beer tent was playing music and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. We were sober az from all that dancing at Deadmau5  and in such a good mood that we decided to get beers just for ”fiilistelyks”. Edwina said we have to leave after two songs cause they had to catch a plane, so they still had to go back to the hostel to get their shit. As we were leaving from the grounds I heard a familiar tune and screamed ”JUSTICE!” and ran to danceto the beat wth Carlos. We left Edwina and Arthur standing on the path but when we returned we didn’t find them there so we just assumed they had taken the bus to the train station and where waiting for us there. Funny thing though, when me and Carlos were only 30 seconds away from the train station, Arthur calls us and asks where we are. Turns out they were still waiting for us at the festival grounds :D Fail. Waited for them and when we finally got to sleep it was half past six in the morning already. Good times.

Heineken Open'er Day 4 pt. 1

Festival day 4 was such a good day. Woke up just to find a missed called from Mia. She had left to get her boyfriend Dan form the airport. Well, kinda didn’t expect to wake up... God knows when I went to sleep. Me and the boys walked Mia home cause she had to get up early but we continued to a club to dance although no drink where drank after she left.

Realized my no-apetite-what-so-ever had really kicked in. Trying to eat that toast was such a mission impossible so I just settled for water and such. Sat in the garden with Edwina, Carlos and Arthur. The boys left somewhere and we had a good chat with Edwina about traveling and such. Good chat. Good chat. Got my speaker from my bag and put on my iPod. Was so good. Edwina was amazed about my triple J podcasts (”AMAZING ! How do YOU have so much ausse music on your iPod”). She was also pretty stoked about Bliss n Eso, Drpaht, Hilltop Hoods and other Aussie treats haha 8) Other people started to come sit with us: Marciano the Mexican and his Polish wife, Joanna and her uncle that didn’t say a word, just smiled :D

At three someone got everyone a beer since the sun had finally come out! We were just laying in hammocks, talking, chilling and enjoying the music :) Texted Mia and told her to come overcause she was srsly missing out and she said they would. Her and Dan were in Sopot and had been drinking for the past three hours. As everyone finished their beers, me and Arthur decided to get people a couple more + some snacks.

Finally Mia nad Dan arrived at half past five, they brought a 24-pack of beer for the nine of us and we ordered pizza which was pretty disguisting, only had like 2,5 slices. After an hour everyone started to leave to the festival site cause we were in a hurry to see The Wombats. That’s when me and Mia got separated – her and Dan and Carlos took a taxi to arrive faster at the festival site when everyone took the train.

So we snuck a couple of small vodka bottles with our group to the festival site and watched The Wombats. They were better in Tavastia in Finland but I loved how modest they were ! They just took they’re time to stay cheer ith the band and throw out drum sticks and such :)

The Stroke were awesome... Everyone was just dancing and feeling the music. Julian, the lead singer, was a bit of a dickhead in my opinion, cause he didn't take his sunnies off although it was pitch black dark... image...

part 2 coming up !

Heineken Open'er Day 3

Day 3 was all about chilaxing and not going to the festival cause the line up didn't have anything exciting on it (Prince?). We got our grub on with Marciano, Carlos, Arthur and Mia at this restaurant where we were finally able to get pierogies. My voice was almost finito, so when the others enjoyed their beers, I settled for a cup of tea. I've always eaten pierogiesz miesem (dumplings with meat) so I was pretty excited to discover that Pierogi Ruskie z cerem (Russian pierogies with cheese) were freaking delicious. So good. Btw, man did we laugh at Carlos’ idiotic jokes that made no sense :D He only got 1/10 right. The rest of the time we were just laughing at him, not with him :D

Marciano followed the other hostel ppl to the Festival site while me, Mia, Carlos and Arthur went to the store to buy some beers and something for dinner. We were just chilling and listening to music and soon this cute half Polish half Italian guy, Christian, who works at the hostel, joined us too. He was pretty stoked about my music and made me do a list for him of all the things I listen to :D

After dinner we went to the Molo (peer) but we couldn’t be bothered to pay to walk on it, so we just went fo r a drink at the bar on the peer. So we got to birds with one stone: the nice view of the peer and some jim beam!
We were pretty lazy to find a good bar, so I just texted Paula, who lives near Sopot, about wanting to find a good place. She recommended Stary Rower (old bicycle) and it was pretty good. Might’ve bought a whole bottle of vodka wot share with the guys..

Heineken Open'er Day 2

DAY 2  01.07

He asuivat lapsineen Texasissa. Eli kaikki oli ihan from all over the place :D

Festarialue on kuitenkin suunniteltu vähän huonosti, koska kävelyetäisyydet on maratoonimaisen pitkät.

  • Aleksandra O'Kay

never have a EVER experienced the same kind of madness like at Deadmau5 yesterday... Words can't even describe the fucking sensation he put on... Dancing in our bras with Edwina Lawson, dancing/sitting on random men's shoulders, crowd-fucking-surfing, getting bruised in mosh pits... fucking hell. thank you. thank you. thank you. Something i wanna experience one day again.

    3 hours ago · Privacy:

Oli vaan sellanen ongelman poikanen, että how to contact your grandparents, when the only sound you can make is a faint whisper...

APETITE, WHERE ARE YOU? PLEASE COME BACK.

Sori tästä tuli tännen train of thought -ajatusoksennus :D Anyway, vois ehkä alkaa syömään ja sit käydä ostamassa piilarit (koska hävitin nekin ! OON NIIN PRO. OIKEESTI. Kuukauden piilolinssit, jotka olin vasta avannut :D GO GO Sandra. Samoin piilarineste, jonka ostin samana päivänä, on karkuteillä. Että juu.) ja sen kameran. Btw, ihanaa, että toi fessu on ohi, eikä tartte juoda peer pressuresta :D

Okei nyt loppuu tää ramblaus. Festarista kirjottanen junassa, do widzenia!

Arriving at Sopot + Heineken Open'er Day 1

Kokonaisuudessaan toi koko matka Sopottiin, meijän "Siesta Hostelliin" makso 4 euroa ! Miaa ehkä vähän  vituttin raahaa sitä sen 19,2 kiloa painavaa laukkua hihnasta, mutta it was so worth it.
